B ob White developed and perfected the fused glass technique. For this art form, broken pieces, chunks and granules of colored antique hand blown glass are layered into a mold. It is then placed in a small furnace kiln to be fired at over 1,500 degrees. This fused glass captures and imprisons light and color inside. Fused glass produces a freedom of movement and a richness of color, permitting a detail of design. White's fused creations are quite thick, unlike his stained glass works. The stained glass windows were hand painted with ground glass and fired to about 1,250 degrees.
The information presented in this section is taken from Fused & Framed: The Artistc Journey of Bob White, a tour of the Bob White art in Mason City. It is also taken from several brochures written for First Presbyterian's dedication of its windows.
