First Stage of Creation

Genesis 1:1 - 5

Plate 5

In the first stage of creation the earth was formless void and in darkness. God created light and established day and night.

For the purposes of this window the artist has accepted the nuclear hypothesis of the formation of the solar system. According to this hypothesis there was first a large cloud of gases and dust. By the working of the forces of gravity a large central mass, the protosun, was formed which was surrounded by smaller masses in concentric rings, the proroplanets. In these protosun and protoplanets the heavier elements by a process of contraction and accretion became massive cores which were surrounded by lighter gases, mostly hydrogen and helium. In the beginning these processes took place in darkness. In time the prorosun reached critical density and became an atomic reactor giving off light, heat and radioactive radiation. This radiation burned off the excess gases surrounding the nearer planets including protoearth.

Plate 2

Beginning in the second panel up (1) there is the central red orb representing the gathering together of the nuclear substance of protoearth. Surrounding it is a swirling mass of gases and flames. Above the orb (2) are the rays of the nascent sun which are burning away the impurities in the atmosphere. They are shown in the colors of the spectrum. The rays also represent day.

Below the orb (3) are some dark lines with a downward angular slant representing night. These areas form an integrated montage of the entire first stage of earth's creation.
