Third Stage of Creation

Genesis 1:9-13

Water of the seas

The story of the creation continues with the third stage. Its symbolism is scattered throughout six panels.

In the third stage of creation the waters were gathered together into the seas and the dry land was formed. The waters of the seas (9) are shown as they flow down both sides of the composition and surround the montage of the first stage.

Plant life appeared as seen on the left. (16) These are seed ferns and other particularly ferny and tree-like plants which were taken from a recontruction of prehistoric vegetation and are representative of early plant forms in a primeval swamp forest.

In the panel on the left (13) are the encrusted rocks. Mountains have been formed (14) by the erosion of water with grass beginning to grow on one of the slopes in the panel to the right.

Beginning the concept of the formation of the dry land, we see at the bottom second panel a blue orb (10).  This is the

stratification of compressed nickle and iron that is found in meteorites and is thought to be the composition of the central core of the earth. Moving outward in this panel are the levels of the outer core containing material in a liquid or plastic form, the mantle make up of hot, extremely dense rocks and containing areas of molten rock or magma and finally the earth's crust. In the center of this conical land form is a volcanic chimney reaching down below the earth's crust. From this comes the eruption of the volcano with flames and pools of lava indicating the part played by volcanos in the formation of the earth.

In the bottom the left panel (11) the lava can be seen flowing down to form cliffs which have been eroded by water, wind and weather. (15) Within the water are sand shoals which sift with the tides and currents of the ocean and make new formations of land. The bottom right panel (12) gives a representation of the landscape with its mountains, trenches and deeps that is know to exist under the sea. These last two images are representations of the forces which have formed the world as w know it.

Dinosaur tracks & bony fish fossilWithin the conical mass (10) are several fossils showing the geological history of the earth and several strata of rich ores symbolizing the mineral and chemical riches of the earth. There are dinosaur tracks and a bony fish which existed millions of years ago.

Find the fossil seed fern fron, crude diamonds as seen under an ultraviolet light, the atomic structure of a diamond which is the hardest natural substance, a volcanic chimney, a piece of peacock coal which is iridescent coal and a gold nugget containing pieces of quartz.
