The Rim of the Earth

Plate 10 Plate 11 Plate 12

This is one of the strong lines of the composition. Above this is celestial and below is terrestrial. Along the rim of the earth are shown various cloud patterns which are:

(23) large cloud patterns as seen from outer space
(24) noctilucent clouds
(25) two storm centers as seen from weather stations in space

Noctilucent clouds, also known as polar mesospheric clouds, are cloud-like phenomena in the upper atmosphere, visible in a deep twilight. They are made up of timey ice particles that are illuminated by the sun after it has gone down. They are seen in northern latitudes and are described as a kind of ghostly orange light.

(26) The aurora borealis, another atmospheric phenomenon is seen in northern latitudes and are caused by radioactive ions from the sun which penetrates into the earth’s upper atmosphere. Below the noctilucent clouds is a flight of birds (27). They are not any particular bird but are to give the idea of flight rising to the highest point in the composition and touching toward the symbol of spiritual light in the upper portion of the window. A flight of birds has always been a symbol of the aspiring spirit, and the Word of God has long been symbolized as a dove.
