Mission

The mission of First Presbyterian Church is to glorify God and proclaim to all the gift of God's transforming grace by embracing the love and teachings of Jesus Christ.

There are times that God calls us to do something, to go somewhere, or to help someone. First Presbyterian makes every effort to recognize those calls and respond to them. It may be in the form of a mission trip or an involvement with local agencies such as the Community Kitchen, Meals on Wheels or the Hawkeye Harvest Food Bank.

The Crop Walk is an annual mission event in Mason City to raise awareness about world hunger, and money to aid those suffering from hunger.   On a national level, the Crop Walk is a program designed by Church World Service.

Members of First Presbyterian frequently serve meals at Mason City's local Community Kitchen which offers free meals to those that need them every day of the week. The Community Kitchen was founded in February, 1982 by a group of concerned ministers and lay people under the leadership of Rev. Lavern Hanson. Five years later, in March of 1987, The Community Kitchen Of North Iowa, Inc., was established as an independent, nonprofit corporation, which seeks to meet the long and short term needs of hungry people and children throughout North Iowa.

In April, 1996, The Kitchen moved from quarters in the Salvation Army building to our own facility at 606 North Monroe in Mason City, Iowa. Their Mission is to provide balanced, nutritious noon meals six days a week to those in need without regard to race, color, creed, nationality, age, gender, handicap, religion, or political affiliation.

Meals on wheels is a non profit organization that supports the shut ins of our community. They provide low cost meals which are delivered to homes by volunteers. First Presbyterian has a group which voluteer on a regular basis.
